MONICA is a Grammy Award-winning, Multi-platinum Artist, 25-million- plus- selling singer, actress, philanthropist and entrepreneur. She was born and raised in Atlanta, GA and began her career at the tender age of 12 years old. She’s the youngest female ever to have two #1 back – to- back hits on Billboard’s R&B chart, featured on her 1995 debut album “Miss Thang.”
“Miss Thang” was released on Rowdy Records July 18, 1995, recorded throughout her early teenage years, releasing four hit singles, reaching top 10 on the Billboard R&B/Hip- Hop Album charts, where it was certified 3x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
“I was Born & Raised in The Atlanta music scene…. The sound, the heart & the love of Atlanta lives within ME….. Anything representing that, I’m there for.” – Monica (1995)
25 years later, Monica is ecstatic about the upcoming “Miss Thang” 25th Anniversary celebration, but she is compelled to expand the scope of this celebration by working in conjunction with her BeHUMAN foundation (501c3) to give back and further amplify the global concerns regarding the extreme social injustices currently plaguing our communities and our country.
Music has long transcended all nationalities and cultures, it serves as a common denominator breaking down barriers and bringing individuals together. Communities all over the world face some of the same social ills preventing them from assisting in the sustainment of a better quality of life for families, safe environments for our youth, and promoting intergroup relations and tolerance. The BeHUMAN Movement will utilize music and poignant messaging to give our communities a platform through social media and various digital outlets to triumph over oppressive situations and inspire each other around the world to do the same.
“The need for us all to simply Be Human is ever present in this day and time. Having love and compassion for others as well as the desire to treat our neighbors as we would ourselves could bring the necessary changes needed in this world. I look forward to uniting with those who want to see global changes that can bring a level of peace and unconditional love, encouraging tolerance, equality, unity, and joy. Be Human is not just dear to my heart – it is my heart! We have the power to make the change if we as human beings do more to Be Human.” Monica (2020)
The BeHUMAN Movement leverages public-private partnerships and challenges others to commit resources to improve the lives of our communities, families, and youth worldwide. It also expands collaborations with experts and places an emphasis on community-led solutions to help promote a culture of humanity.
